Overall odds are the published probability of winning any prize on a ticket. They are set when the NY Lottery prints a game and never change. For example, if a $5 game has overall odds of 1 in 3.5, that means 1 in 3.5 tickets in the entire print run is a winner of some amount (often the ticket price back).
Remaining odds recompute daily based on how many prizes are still unclaimed. If a game has paid out most of its top prizes but most tickets are still on shelves, remaining odds get worse than the published number. ScratchOffsNY is one of the few sources tracking this.

Overall odds come directly from the NY Lottery's published game data — these are exact figures from the printer's distribution plan. Remaining odds are recomputed during scheduled refresh cycles by combining the overall odds, the original print run size, and the count of unclaimed prizes from the official NY Lottery prize-claim feed (updated by the state daily).
